TechZing 54 – UFOs and the National Security State

Justin and Jason speak with UFO historian, Richard Dolan, author of UFOs and the National Security State: Chronology of a Cover-Up, 1941-1973, The Cover-Up Exposed, 1973-1991 and a third and final volume which has not yet been released, but which will cover the history from 1991 up to the present day. Some of the topics discussed include the top twelve government documents on UFOs and how they were obtained via the Freedom of Information Act, The Black Vault as a source of released government documents, a provocative UFO encounter at an Air Force missile base, why an alien race might find us interesting and whether there could possibly be more than a single species, the rapid advancement of human technology and the Singularity, some interesting statements made by Ben Rich, former director of Lockheed’s Skunk Works, the possible transfer of recovered alien technology from the hands of the military to aerospace contractors, the black budget and special access programs, how the National Reconnaissance Organization, the NSA, Bletchley Park and the Manhattan Project all remained secret from the public for many years, possible reasons for the government’s desire for secrecy on the subject of UFOs, Nick Cook, the editor of Jane’s Defense Weekly, and his book on the Nazi effort to develop Zero-point energy, Katherine Austin Fitts, former assistant secretary of HUD and her amazing revelations about the Arlington Institute’s work on the topic of aliens, investigative journalist Leslie Kean and her upcoming book UFOs: Generals, Pilots and Government Officials Go on the Record, the possibility that aliens may have been here for thousands of years, NASA Astronaut Edgar Mitchell’s revelation that there exist deep black programs within the US government to study alien technology, the history and controversy surrounding the Majestic 12 documents, the intelligence community’s use of disinformation and it’s corrosive effect on democracy, NICAP – the leading civilian UFO organization of it’s time and how it was infiltrated by the CIA, how Richard was able to make a career for himself as a UFO historian and some advice on being a writer and publishing your own work.

Sorry guys, lets see an alien wandering around, a la “Signs”, then I’ll believe, until then it’s all talk.
    – Bill Clinton, Monica Lewsinski, alone in an office, no cameras, no documents, no witnesses…and the gov’t can’t even keep that a secret. I think you give the Federal Secrecy Dept far to much credence.
    – The gov’t says “nothing to see here” about everything. Even when higher-ups are clearly worked up over terrestrial events.
    – US military intelligence can’t identify WMD’s on the ground, how can they confirm aliens in the sky?
    – In regard to Malmstrom nuclear base, here is a lengthy forum discussing the Malmstrom incident, http://www.realityuncovered.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=19&p=25341 even has a post from a SAC missile crew commander saying it wasn’t aliens. Hey, maybe if UFO’s can disable nukes they’ll pay a visit to Iran.
    – How many telescopes, web cams, IR systems are pointed at the sky. C’mon guys, where are the pictures? Oh right, they avoid the cams by hanging out over classifieds areas.
    – Good points about Bletchly Park and Manhattan Project (I live next to Oak Ridge), while it was all (kind of) secret during the war. Within a few years nobody could keep it quiet and everybody knew exactly what was going on at both these sights. How long have we supposedly had UFO relics undercover? 50 years? And nobody can produce physical evidence. Within 50 years we’d even pried Hitler’s scull from the grip of the KGB.
    – If the US army is hoarding alien technology, where’s the fruit? Jar-heads lugging 60 lbs of gear thru the Afghani desert when it could just be levitated. Yeah, nobody wants to “piss-off” Congress, that’s their incentive for not releasing the technology…right.
    – If the Pentagon really wants to build inertia maybe they could use alien technology…hehe
    – I think these “reliable sources” brew green man stories so that they can sit back and have good laugh as it all unravels.
    – Conspiracy theorist unite! jk fellas, fun show!

What was the political agenda behind it? You don’t know. I find it surprising that anyone cares about any particular President’s marital affairs. In the podcast, Richard says that there was an actual department of the US government which was kept secret for many years. I can bet the people employed by this department had no idea what they were doing, just a few did. Think about when you do a project at work. You don’t always know about the political agenda behind it and you might be the project lead!

By implication, you are saying that other politicians can’t have such secrets because we would know. I think you know how silly that is.

    Neville :

Unknown political agenda. You cannot deny that there is at least a hint of an alternative agenda than what the political leaders implied for the war of terror.

lol! Well, I won’t deny that there are nuts out there. I bought a book once about Area 51 that was so ridiculous but people believed the story.

Well, you can quite easily hide in plain sight at night time. Turn off your lights. If they are here observing us for whatever reason, and they know we would be conscious of a possible threat, it makes sense to hide as well as possible. Maybe they have a Romulan warbird.

Umm, no one knew about the SR-71 Blackbird until they wanted you to know. What’s your point here?

    Agreed.

As do I. But to think we are alone in this universe and that perhaps the technology could never be created to cross the vast distances and beat the Drake equation’s predictions would be very close minded, in my opinion.

But then again, I say the same thing about lack of proof to people who believe in God and as Carl Sagan said, the two beliefs are probably very closely related.

Oh by the way, I saw something really strange in the sky once while walking with my brother (cigar shaped something) Could have been swamp gas.

I wonder what swamp gas actually looks like.

  6. Bopinder Abu Morpalinder Singh says:

PS: Also Chicago O’ Hare. I could have sworn there was an actual video of the hole in the sky.

  7. Neville says:

All good points Bo, maybe someday a video will surface…until then I’m a sceptic. 🙂

…only if motherships are as common as churches 🙂

  8. soitgoes says:

Sorry guys, but like @Neville (who makes some excellent points in his comment) I remain very sceptical about talk of alien UFOs. I enjoyed the section where the discussion touched on AI and the singularity though. Actually, I think that would make a great topic for a future podcast, especially if you could get someone from the singularity institute on.

  9. Jason says:

@soitgoes Yeah, I was thinking the same exact thing. It would be awesome if we could get Ray Kurzweil himself, but that may be a bit optimistic. At the very least, it would cool if we could get someone from the Singularity Institute.

  10. soitgoes says:

@Jason. I didn’t mention Ray because I thought that would be too difficult even for you guys. However, if you did manage it, it would make for a wonderful podcast. I’m sure he would enjoy himself as you are both great hosts with great questions.

  11. The Guyone says:

“Aliens living and working among us, special govt. departments, etc. That would make a good movie”
C’mon guys – it did make a good movie, so good they even made a sequel! It was called… no wait! You watched it right till the end where they used the mind blank device didn’t you? OK, at the end of this post you will forget everything I’ve written here.
    Deeeeet.

  12. Justin says:

So we finally got you to comment eh? 🙂

  13. Well, that was, quite frankly, the most awesomest show evar. I’m a big believer that UFOs exist (no one can deny that surely?) and that aliens must exist SOMEWHERE – so why not aliens flying UFOs? Makes sense to me 🙂

    MORE PLEASE!

  14. Jason says:

@Alex Gemmell Glad you enjoyed it! 😉 The number of downloads of this show are pretty substantial, so that probably means you’re not the only one who finds the topic interesting. I really enjoyed meeting Richard and find him to be a very credible person, so I’d like to get him back on the show again some time. Also, there are a few other very serious researchers that would be awesome to speak with like Timothy Good, Leslie Kean, Stanton Friedman and maybe even Nick Cook. I’m wary of getting too off topic too often, so I’m thinking maybe once every few months we could try to get one of them on the show.
