Justin and Jason discuss how the TechLunch crew watched the US/England World Cup game at Justin’s house, the inner workings of AppIgnite, how Jason came up with the idea for AppIgnite and why he doesn’t want to raise money for it, building one large revenue stream vs a number of smaller revenue streams, the investor in Jason’s previous company, Apple’s convoluted App Store certificate process, potential pricing models for Swarm, the trade-offs of relying on third-party platforms, the productivity boost provided by Titanium, debugging in Titanium using trace statements, whether Twitter’s API limitations are due to malice or incompetence, the Google nuclear winter, why Justin likes to pay for products, how to keep your creative voice from being infected by external influences, why Jason talks to strangers, why he took his son to a Parkor gym and how he tried the stand-up desk thing and failed.
I think you made a good point about the lack of social interaction that often goes with being a single founder / work from home consultant. Having the peace and quiet to get work done is great, but I sometimes miss the serendipitous interactions you get in the workplace. Overall I do prefer working from home. However, maybe I’ll join the gym or take my laptop down the pub once or twice a week for a bit of socializing 🙂 Thanks guys.
Just though I would share this bit of news, a game company has just announced a game called Swarm. http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=398588
@Jacob Chapel
I think there are quite a few games with Swarm in the title. That’s why I put the SG on the end of it! Thx for the heads up 🙂
@Justin
No problem. I didn’t know you added SG to the name. I guess its when bigger companies use the name, they may be more sue happy, so thats why I thought I should share.
Wow, the Apple app process sounds completely retarded. I thought you had a HTML5 version?
Jason, I dare you to say “I feel like farting” next time you’re in an elevator with a bunch of strangers.
Dear JV Multimedia, Inc.,
Your application has been approved for sale on the App Store. Pending any application availability issues, your app will be Ready for Sale and live on the App Store within 24 hours. If your contracts are not in effect at this time, your application status will be Pending Contract. You may track the progress of your contracts in the Contracts, Tax, and Banking module in iTunes Connect.
Application Name: Swarm SG
So anyway, if you had a HTML5 version, you could make it free to play but pay $30/yr or something to participate in tourneys (with prizes!)
Wonder how that would work. Btw, your pluggio.com/stats is so much fun to look at.
Yayy! Now Swarm is now on sale in the app store! http://swarmsg.com
@BAMS Not a bad idea… I’m still leaning toward the 20 games for free model with in-app upgrade….
You guys were talking about platform lock-in regarding Titanium, not being able to have an auto updating/unlockable application until Titanium provided the functionality. Titanium is open source. You can code your own low level modules in ObjC (for iOS Mobile) and expose the methods for use in Javascript.
@Logan That’s very cool! I didn’t know that. Thanks for the info.
Will probably work pretty well if you are going after the board gaming community.
