Cathal is a really interesting guy and knows his stuff, so it was a blast talking to him. I just wish we had had more time because we really only got through about a third of my questions. I guess we’ll need to get him back on sometime soon. 😉

I just love how he is able to relate synthetic biology and all the other related topics to programming. You can tell that he is not only experienced in both biology and computer programming, but he has thought a great deal about how to communicate complex ideas in simple ways. I was really impressed.

I don’t think I would be one of those early adopter types for this field simply because of the long feedback time that Cathal mentioned. As soon as they can figure out a way to get the feedback loops more on the order of minutes than a full day, I am totally in. Even so, I am definitely planning on doing a couple ad hoc experiments with my kids at some point using the equipment he talked about.
