Also, I agree that jQuery is the way to go for Appignite generated applications and I’m glad that Guyon convinced me of that. You can only fight the tides for so long and the jQuery tide is a damn strong one.

Unfortunately, I think Sandy is kind of an exception with this kind of stuff and that few women would be as helpful, patient and resilient as she’s been. Anyway, we’ll probably talk about it on the next show because I think it’s an interesting topic.

Those aren’t good odds. I guess these days coding in raw Javascript without the benefit of a library like jQuery is akin to coding in C or even assembly. It can be done and is necessary in some cases, but a diminishing few will actually engage in it.

I’ll talk about it some more on the next discussion show.

It also is a great example of how Yammer can be used in the enterprise.

Jason, it’s good thing you’re implementing jQuery into the AppIgnite platform. jQuery has definitely become a de-facto standard in many enterprises and many web sites. This will make it easier for your customers to customize or add on to what you generate. I think it’s normal to find the syntax and idioms a bit weird at first but once you implement a significant app you will not look back. Guyon’s suggestion to use the plugin model makes a lot of sense – but I do agree that there is a bit of learning curve.
Also you totally need to write your version of the queued Ajax request plugin – you will get quite a bit of visibility once you publish it and blog about it. Talk about increasing the LSA too! 🙂
Justin rant on REST also made me laugh (I feel your pain too). I come from the long lineage of distributed objects, CORBA and SOAP, and REST is yet another approach to tackle too especially since it has too become the de-facto on the Internet.

Sounds like you need to add an item to the top of your how to do a startup with kids:

#1 First, marry Sandy.
#2 …

I was on some css3html5 conference in the summer and a speaker was doing the show of hands. He was trying to show how times have changed and one of the questions was “everybody uses a jQuery or something similar now, raise your hand if you don’t”, out of 70 people, only I raised the hand. It was funny.

I have several reasons not to use it, and basically none for using it. If I need something like a datepicker (which I don’t want to reinvent) I use MooTools’ components because jQuery UI is horribly slow.

I dont know which system works out better in the end, but I can honestly say I have never worried about medial expences from antibiotics through to hostpital stays and the like.

I wonder if anyone who comments has any intelligent throughts on the comparison? I would really like to know the differences between them.

I’ve been an active HSA user for the past eight years or so, and am quite happy with it.
