Of course I love Mr. Jackson and his insights, but it was cool to see this impromptu discussion come to life.

As someone who has spent some time trying to paddle where there are no waves, it was fun to listen to.

Both Justin’s made some lots of great points. So many that I wanted to take notes along the way. Here are some of the standout quotes for me:

– A market starved for attention, a hungry market or a market with pent up demand is a good wave to be on.

– An audience can mean different things but it was useful to hear the distinction between an audience being people that follow a person vs a market which is the total number of people interested in a type of product.

– It’s possible to be successful without an audience in the strict definition but you’re always going to need some kind of marketing (SEO, PPC, content) to drive traffic to your thing.

– You’ve got to start by learning the fundamentals and a big part of that is showing up, making things, providing value to people and letting them know about it. At the same time keeping your expectations in check and looking out for the right wave + founder it.

Great and spontaneous analysis of how things work behind the scene of launching a business.

At the end you meet on a sort of agreement, but I think that the key to understand the topic is at which level of entrepreneurship you are at.

If you are at the beginning, building an audience is an easy way to understand the basic rules of people engagement and content marketing.

If you are advanced you already have those skills to read the market and launch products with more confidence.

I found some truth in both and mentioned them to Justin Vincent on (the not yet published) episode 29 of our mastermind podcast Reactor.am. He checkout out the tweets, started chatting and then... BOOM! Impromptu podcast 🎉 I think the spontaneity really added something to this episode. I like how you just jumped right in.

Justin Jackson: You made a great case! I don’t think I’m going to abandon my Elixir screencast business for PHP or Java just yet, but I’ll definitely aim for a bigger target next time. A Colorado River, as you put it 😅
