Hoping for a resolution of your problems in the next podcast episode.

Clicked and looked at the b12 content of your supplement. It is low:
Vitamin B12(As Methylcobalamin) 125 Mcg 20.8%

You can’t really overdose on b12. You can easily go much higher. Doses equivalent to 1000s of mcg of cyanocobalamin.

Here’s a link:

http://www.vitaminshoppe.com/p/b-complex-125-100-tablets/vs-1048#.V2wbAeYrLXQ

The reason I’m taking this one specifically is because it seemed to match up exactly with the supplement described in the case study I read about:

“Treatment prescribed at the first visit of this particular case included supplementation with a B-complex containing vitamin B6, folic acid, and B12 (as methylcobalamin), in addition to vitamins B1, B2, B3, B5, biotin, choline, and inositol. The patient was counseled to take 2 capsules every morning with breakfast, and asked to reduce substances in his diet known to exacerbate reflux symptoms, including coffee and alcohol (also a known risk factor for B12 deficiency, via the development of atrophic gastritis8).”

However, it’s been two weeks since I started on the supplement and I have thus far seen no reduction in symptoms, much less a complete cessation of them. I’m probably going to see a physician soon to get my blood work done and to try to find out more. I’m guessing that I may need to go off the PPI entirely and get a series of B12 shots or something. I guess we’ll see. In the meantime though, it feels like my feet are on fire. ;(

That B12 primer had some interesting information and seemed pretty well-sourced.

Also, I misspoke when I said that “B12 only comes from meat”, so I appreciate the correction / clarification.

This might be more work than you’re looking for, but you could also provide a matchmaking service — people who like an idea and want to meet other like-minded people hit a button, and they all get added to a slack channel or something.

If people make great products based on these ideas you could end up having an investment pipeline, a job site, etc.

RE: 45 minutes in, B12

Just to note on the phrase “only comes from meat”, comes from yes, but does not originate in the meat. Farmers give B12 supplements to livestock and you as a consumer pick it up as it hangs around in their tissues. So you are always taking a B12 supplement on a Western diet, either directly or indirectly. Only some special species of bacteria and archaea can synthesize B12. Opinions vary as to how much B12 livestock get from the bacteria in their own guts [1]. Humans do brew it up in their large intestine but absorb it higher up in their small intestine (a bit of a design flaw) [2].

There are some interesting references cited by this article: http://www.theveganrd.com/vegan-nutrition-primers/vitamin-b12-a-vegan-nutrition-primer

Good episode so far. Fingers crossed for that second quarterback + linebacker captain(?) (I know nothing about American Football) outcome.

Best,
Andrew
