I just wanted to say I really enjoyed this episode. I liked Justin shooting some links at Jason and seeing if he had any thoughts on them. It was nice hearing you guys talk about some fresh topics, because I feel sometimes the show can focus a little too strongly on the same topics each week.

Also, on Jason’s comment about mainly doing the show because it has a positive effect on peoples lives. I was another listener who put a few thousand dollars into Tesla quite early largely due to Jason’s excitement about it. I think I brought in at about $130~. I’m really glad I followed your advise and got in when I did. So you can add me to the list of people who you’ve helped from the show too. =)

The prospect of nuclear winter is scary, but another less well known potential side effect of nuclear war is massive ozone loss:

This ozone loss could occur even with a relatively small-scale war, on the order of 100 hiroshima-sized bombs (as an aside, the largest US test of a hydrogen bomb was 15 megatons, which is 1000 times the yield of Hiroshima’s “little boy” bomb. Russia tested one that was 50 megatons). Ozone loss at that scale would let in some serious UV radiation.

Also, population projections are extremely dependent on culture, technology, and disease. Most projections I’ve seen actually have population topping out at around 10 billion sometime in this century, and then decreasing. Mostly this is due to the fact that population growth rates drastically slow down when countries reach a certain level of economic prosperity. Many developed nations currently have negative population growth (or would if not for immigration).
