Bitprofit enthusiasts Justin and Jason interview Jessica Mah (CEO and co-founder of InDinero) about her recent Y-Combinator experience and how she was able to raise over a million in seed round funding from a group of top tier angel investors.
I love Jessica, she has a fresh and quirky perspective. She’s like the Willy Wonka of Startup Tech. I wonder if Oompa Loompas can code?
“sh*t, can we really handle a thirty year old !?!” …that’s should have been the show title, LOL
“suss” …glad to see that Justin’s English is rubbing off on Jason. Next Jason will be mis-pronouncing Balsamiq and Beta, LOL
Another great episode guys! Thanks
@Neville Amazing to see that Jason picked up some UK sayings! Thx for the kind words 🙂
@Neville Holy crap, Justin has infected me and I didn’t even know it! This is bad. 😉
This woman impresses me.
6 out of 7 days a week you build product and talk to customers.
THAT’S WHAT I’VE BEEN DOING WRONG! I spend 30 minutes a month doing both. I’m so surprised I actually have more than 1 customer.
It would have been good to hear about how she got thousands of small business customers and what sort of businesses make up her customer base.
@Samh I know! I had written down those exact questions in my pre-interview notes, but somehow managed not to ask them. What can I say – I’m an idiot. 😉 Maybe I’ll just email her the question and if she’s willing to elaborate I’ll add her answer to our first mailing list email. You almost forgot about that didn’t you? Yeah, well so did I. 😉
Good content and good interview but Jason, you need to really change the way you interview people. You constantly inject your opinions, examples, and comparisons before asking a question. Instead you should ask the question, get the response, THEN add your commentary. Let the guest speak! By commenting first you steer their response.
@Dan DeFelippi You’re absolutely right. It’s something Justin has pointed out to me before and I’m going to really try to work on it. I’ve come to realize that interviewing is a real skill in and of itself and will require practice and focus to move beyond the complete amateur stage. Thanks for the constructive feedback and I promise I will get better. 😉
Hearing about the incubator process at YC was very enlightening. It would be great to hear some other examples of people having participating in other incubator programs like TechStars and others (by the way what are other ones besides YC and TC?).
Also Jessica has a ton of energy and enthusiasm so that made the show fun to listen to as well.
