Hey dudes, I’ll get in on this fitness stuff with you. I’m 46 years old, 6’1″, 212 pounds and 23.3% bodyfat. I exercise regularly, but I cannot reliably break 200 lbs.

Can you please share the name of the tasty protein bar and the make of mint chocolate protein shake?

    Fun show!

  2. Jason says:

@Lance Jones – The protein bar is Quest Bar (21g of protein, 1g of sugar and 180 calories) and the protein shake is BodyTech WheyTech Pro 24 Chocolate Mint (24g of protein, 1g of sugar and is 110 calories). They both taste great – at least to me anyway. 😉

Also, I’d highly recommend getting a Blender Bottle so that you don’t have to clean up a blender every time you make a shake, which quickly becomes a pain.

Thanks, Jason. I found ’em all at my local health superstore. I’ll let you know about the taste… 🙂

@Lance Jones – Cool. I hope you like them as much as I do.

It sucks that you can’t buy a “sample” size of a protein powder. It’s like you have to buy a year’s supply for a small village or none at all. 😉

  5. Hi,

Just thought I’d let whoever is interested the workout that I’m currently doing. It is based on “the scientific 7 minute workout” from the paper: “High-Intensity Circuit Training Using Body Weight: Maximum Results With Minimal Investment” [1]. I’m 24, and not overweight, and have never worried about my weight in the past, however I am recently becoming more keen on keeping it that way! I also know that I won’t have the commitment to go the the gym long term, and I was keen for something that didn’t require specialist equipment. This approach seemed like I good way of doing it.

I found a really good YT video [2] that goes through it with some well time music playing. I’m trying to do it once every day, and I’m definitely feeling stronger. Definitely worth giving it a go!

Hey guys! All your diet and fitness talk inspired me to write about my recent experimentation. If you’re interested: http://blargon7.com/2014/07/giving-up-and-getting-fit/ hope you’re both doing well, and congrats on the baby news Justin!

  7. Richard says:

Interesting to hear the diet and exercise information, I’ve now tried by first HIIT workout on a cross trainer and will try to do it regularly.

Jason’s interview on Bootstrapped with Kids was fun, I also listened to an episode with Joanna Wiebe where she talks a bit about Disco. I was amused looking down the list of episodes in iTunes that Jason’s one is about half an hour longer than the rest 🙂

  8. Jason says:

@Richard – Yeah, and I was just getting warmed up! 😉

  9. Jason says:

@Dave Hunt – Wow, that’s a crazy diet you’ve constructed for yourself, but it’s awesome that it worked so well. It just goes to show you that there’s more than one way to skin a cat. 😉

I’m currently in the process of eliminating most sugar from my diet and I just knocked coffee out yesterday. You’re right, it’s not that hard once you get yourself into the right mindset. One of the tricks, as you’ve obviously learned, is to use the power of gradualism to your advantage.

Love the show and the fitness stuff, thanks for the kick in the butt which i desperately needed

  11. Botj says:

What was the name if the protein powder Jason was using? Link ?
Sounds delicious. I have used them in the past but could never find one that tasted well with water.

@Botj – The protein bar is Quest Bar (21g of protein, 1g of sugar and 180 calories) and the protein shake is BodyTech WheyTech Pro 24 chocolate mint (24g of protein, 1g of sugar and is 110 calories). They both taste great, or at least I think so. 😉

Also, I’d highly recommend getting a Blender Bottle so that you don’t have to clean up a blender multiple times per day, which gets to be a pain real quick and, of course, they’re noisy as hell.
